Ladies Auxilliary

Ladies Auxiliary to The Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon Command

President's Message

Cathy Tillotson
Ladies Auxilliary President

As we embark upon the New Year, it is a time of reflection, honouring our past accomplishments, as well as a time of anticipation, planning for our goals yet to be attained.

The Ladies Auxiliary stands proud in the community. We strive to enrich the quality of lives of others, whether it is for Veterans and their families, Military personnel, Seniors, youth or those in need. Our passion and commitment knows no bounds, as we rise to the occasion when and where we are needed.

Our rich, vital history dates back to before the Second World War. Then when our Men and Women were called to serve in the cause of peace, women gathered to form Ladies Auxiliaries to The Legion. Fundraising, planning, and organizing programs designed to support the War effort, were innovative and inspired. Following the War, the momentum continued to grow as the need was so great in assisting the transition from Military to civilian and community life. The Ladies Auxiliary was the golden thread, smoothing the way, encouraging hope, and bridging the gap, seeming so effortless and behind the scenes. Unsung heroes by any measure.

Our stellar growth continued over the years as we expanded our vision and our reach into the community. The Ladies Auxiliary has become involved with Seniors, youth and other citizens needing support and encouragement. Our creative, inspired community support, through our vast fundraising, is a testament to our desire in meeting the needs of an ever changing society.

There is also no shortage of ideas, enthusiasm, and energy among our Membership, which have withstood the test of time. As we plan for the future of the Ladies Auxiliary, our reach into the community must build upon these admirable qualities. We must take up the challenge, together, to enhance our Membership, as our community work is vital for the health and well being of so many.

It has been a privilege and a proud time in my life, to be the President of the Ladies Auxiliary, BC/Yukon Command. Yes the challenges have been great, but the accomplishments far outweigh any obstacles we have had to overcome.

Our primary goal is to assist Veterans and their families. As our men and women continue to serve throughout the world, our assistance is needed as much today as it has been in the past.

It also gives me great pleasure to share with you, that the Year 2007, has been Proclaimed “Year of the Ladies Auxiliary”. In a Motion approved by the BC/Yukon Command Executive Council, this Proclamation recognizes the tireless contributions of the Ladies Auxiliary and honours us as an integral service of The Royal Canadian Legion.

I encourage all Ladies Auxiliaries to seize this as an opportunity to become more involved with the Legion Branches and Zones, as suggested in the “Proclamation”.

During our upcoming Convention in Powell River, May 6th to 9th we will reminisce about our past year of accomplishment and expand upon our future plans, to inspire, to thrive and to “Serve”.
